Milan San Remo

The Spring Classic (Classicissima di Primavera ) is coming up and for edition 2013 there’s a novelty, the Milan-San Remo will take place on Sunday March 17th , the race has been moved by the organizers for the first time from Saturday to Sunday.

The Milan-San Remo is a bike race that can count over a hundred editions, one of the biggest cycle classics and one of the one-day races mostly followed by passionates of this sport.

The departure from Milan  on Sunday morning will see the descent to the Riviera, the covering of 298km of roads and the toughest part will be faced just in the province of Imperia  with the climbs of Cipressa and Poggio, last  bastion before tackling the descent towards the mythical finishing line which even for 2013 will be on the Promenade Italo Calvino, between the palm trees and the sea.

For all those who aren’t professional cyclists but want to emulate the legends of the two-wheels can face the route of the Milan-San Remo of March in the  GranFondo  Milano Sanremo  that is organized every year in June.

Mirò, poesia e luce. Genoa Palazzo Ducale

Palazzo Ducale of Genoa hosts until April 7,2013 the Mirò exhibition ! Poesia e luce (Poetry and light), a showcase of over 80 works of the Catalan artist that represents one of the major exponent of the European avant guarde.

Joan Mirò lived from 1893 to 1983,  the works in exhibition cover a time period between 1908 and 1981, over seventy years as a protagonist of one of the most complicated European period from a human and historical point of view.

The works by Mirò in exhibition are works that have never reached Italy, among these we find 50 large-format oil paintings, terra cotta, bronze scultures, water colors.  Particular importance is given to the works created by Mirò in the thirties, where he past the last part of his life in Majorca, in the Balearic Islands.

Sanremoinfiore 2013

On Sunday March 10,2013 there will be the parade of the flowered floats of San Remo, one of the most important and worldwide famous event of the Flower Riviera.

Sanremoinfiore 2013 chosed as this year’s theme “l’uomo nello spazio” (man in space), the floats participating will be 10, each belonging to a municipality of the province of Imperia:  Golfo Dianese ” A spasso nel tempo”, Riva Ligure “Allunaggio!!! Ar…riva (Ligure) Buzz Lightyear”, Bordighera “Apollo 10″, Ventimiglia “Aspettando il ritorno”, Taggia “Avatar”, Santo Stefano al mare “Futurama”, Dolceacqua “Liguri nello spazio”,  Seborga “Alla conquista di nuovi pianeti“,  Ospedaletti “Passeggiata …tra i pianeti”, Vallecrosia “Verso l’infinito e oltre”.

The floats, completely decorated with the flowers of the Flower Rivier, will parade along the Calvino Promenade, Piazzale Dapporto, ex Railway  Station, cycle path parallel to Via Nino Bixio reaching Vittorio Veneto Gardens.

Sanremoinfiore will take place from 10.00 to 13.30 and the event will be broadcasted by channel Rai 1 during the TV program Linea Verde.

On Saturday March 9th and Sunday March 10th  there will be many side events in the city of San Remo,  in the Pigna of San Remo will take place the fair Pigna & Wine, in the Cassini and Nota squares and in Colombo square you can visit for the entire weekend many craft markets,  while in the area near San Siro square you can visit the monthly Antiques market .

Billiard: San Remo Casino Trophy 2013

There will soon be the San Remo Casino Trophy of Billard, from January 11 to January 27, 2013 at the gambling house, a grand return for all-level players and for the fans of this game that in 2007 and 2008 took place at the “Gran Premio Città di Sanremo”. 

In the halls of the Casino of San Remo will be played the Italian League Master, the Master Goriziana and the Italian League of  boccette.

San Remo Rallye 2012

Appointment in the City of Flowers  with the 54th edition of the San Remo Rally, on October 10-13 2012, European FIA Cup, Italian Rally Championship and Italian trainings series FIA “Intercontinental Rally Challenge”.
For the city of San Remo, this appointment represents one of the most important events of the year, a milestone in the calendar of the sport events of the Riviera, a date to remember for all the passionates of car racings.
The special trials of the San Remo Rally always take place in the hinterlands of San Remo and province, the most evocative stages are the ones that touch Mount Ceppo, passo Teglia, Colle Langan…  rough and wild places, full of technical difficulties  that put in the spotlight the most skillfull and daring pilots.
The special trials will take place on Friday 12 and Saturday 13, a Rally Village will be set up inside the Service Park in Carlo Dapporto Square and Lungomare Italo Calvino.

The secret gardens of Cotè d’Azur

The Coté d’Azur is the natural geographic extension of the Flower Riviera, a place where it’s Spring all year long, facing the sea and blessed with a mild climate and lots of sunsine.

Therefore the location is perfect for the growth and development of flowers and plants of all kinds,  countless are the gardens and the parks that dot the towns of this Southern strip of France.

We begin our tour with the Gardens of Villa Kérylos , situated at Beaulieu sur Mer, the Villa is the accurate reconstruction of a building of ancient Greece, surrounding the villa there’s a lovely garden full of plants of the Mediterranean maquis: vineyards, olive trees, carobs, myrtle, laurel sided by payrus and palm trees. The propriety romantically overlooks the Gulf of Cap Ferrat.

Continuing our trip among the fragrants of the Mediterranean maquis,  we’ll visit the Gardens and the Renoir Propriety in Cagnes sur Mer, which in 1907 Auguste Renoir, master of Impressionism, decided to purchase it and spent the last years of his life in the midst of olive trees and other centuries old plants. The propriety includes a vast garden which perserves century old olive trees, scentiful rose gardens and many fruit trees. It is said that the place was the source of inspiration for some of the last works of the French artist.

The Exotic Gardens of Eze  are suspended between the blue sky and the cobalt blue sea of Coté d’Azur, an enchanted  location that encloses a place with caves excaved in the rock and terraces overlooking the panorama, all surrounded by hundreds of exotic plants that create the Jardin Exotique, an Eden for all.

Proceeding the visit at the discovery of the secret gardens we can’t forget the opulence of  Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and the Gardens of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, the Villa and the Gardens were created by the Baron Rothschild during the period of the Belle Epoque, the position is magnificent, the gardens are nine and they’re inspired by the major international styles.

We would like to dedicate a glance at a special garden, a park that perserves plants but moreover artistic masterpieces, it’s the  Maeght Foundation at Saint-Paul, a garden where many masterpieces of the most important modern and contemporary artists proudly stand.

It was created in 1964 by Aimé and Marguerite Maeght and it hosts many works of Braque, Chagall, Giacometti, Matisse, Mirò…. Sculptures, paintings, ceramics and lithographs of important artists of the twentieth century come together in an embrace with nature in which they’re immersed.

Master Tennis Monte Carlo 2012

It will take place from April 14 to April 22 the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters, one of the most important international tennis tournament played on the red ground.

The Monte Carlo Rolex Masters was born in the far 1897 and, touching three centuries , today is one of the men’s tournament of tennis belonging  to the category  ATP World Tour Masters 1000, the most prestigous category after the one that encloses the four tournaments of the Slam.

The last 7 titles were won by the Spanish Champion Rafael Nadal, that holds the record of straight wins in the Era Open.

For all the passionates of tennis, the Tournament of Monte Carlo is one of the most important appointments of the season, an occasion to see play  the best world champions in a unique scenery, under the ”Rocca” of the Principality of Monaco and a few steps from the beautiful sea of the Cotè d’Azur.

Under the pleasant April sky you can sunbathe sitting in tribune while watching a great match, perhaps the semi-finals or a challenge for the last point!

It will be a week of great tennis and inside the Monte Carlo Country Club all the matches will be runned starting from 10.30 in the morning, after the matches you can visit with tranquillity the Principality of  Monaco and the nearby Cotè d’Azur, to discover all its secrets and fully enjoy its natural beauties and its enviable climate.

Giraglia Rolex Cup 2012 with arrival at San Remo

The edition 2012 of the Giraglia Rolex Cup, which touched its 60th edition, will take place between San Remo and Saint Tropez from June 8 to June 16 2012. The arrival will be right in the City of Flowers that in the past years has strongly wanted to restore this historic and prestigious international sailing competition.
The name Giraglia, given to the competition, comes from a small rock in front of the Corsica which is located at the northern edge of the Ile de Beauté which is used as a turning point for the regatta, doubled the ships will sail for San Remo.

Sailing competions in the Gulf of San Remo

San Remo mini solo

The month of May offers important sport events for the passionates of the sea and sailing in the Gulf of the Flower City.

The  Yacht Club of San Remo organizes on  Thursday May 17th the San Remo Mini Solo, a suggestive yacht race in solo towards the French  Porquerolles Islands.

The weekend May 18-19 instead will see the dispute of a race doubly interesting, Vela & Sapori (Sailing &Savours), a combination that will see the duel of the sailboats and the chefs on board, in a twofold challenge between wind in their sails and pots and pans!
